I am in the process of creating a series of wooden backgammon boards, which were inspired by my passion for playing backgammon and my long time interest in Eastern Philosophy. The symbol Yin – Yang, whose origin is from Taoism, is incorporated into the board’s playing pieces.

This symbol is depicted as a circle with two opposing, complimentary forces interacting: black (yin) and white (yang). The Yin energy is often referred to as the Feminine, represented by the Moon, Darkness, Introspection and Contraction, while the Yang energy is often referred to as the Male, represented by the Sun, Light, Action and Expansion.

 

It is this dynamic energy system that influenced the design of the playing pieces and the theme for these boards: “Your Opponent is Within You."
